Sydney Attractions:: The Capitol Theatre
Originally built as a marketplace in the early 1890’s, it was demolished in 1915 and the walls were rebuilt exactly the same but some four metres higher to form Wirth’s Circus Hippodrome. In 1927 the interior was remodelled to make the Capitol Theatre. The theatre has payed host to opera, rock concerts, movies and stage performances. The theatre underwent a $35million refurbishment in the 90’s and is now regarded as one of the finest theatres in the country.
